National Symposium 2005

‘Their Lives, Our Work:
Critical questions for practice in child, youth and family services’

held at
Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre
Preston, Victoria
on 10th, 11th, 12th of October 2005

The Symposium brought together international experts in the field and a range of practitioners, carers and young people to share learning, critique current practice approaches and inform our future way of working. 

This was a great event with over 300 people attending and a real buzz of excitment and commitment to improved practice and better services for children and young people.

Keynote Speakers
Marianne Berry Professor Marianne Berry has authored over 80 publications on evidence-based techniques in serving families and children. She is a National Child Welfare Research Fellow of the U.S. Children's Bureau, and a member of the International Association of Outcome Based Evaluation and Research in Children and Family Services, based in Padua, Italy.
Brian Farragher Brian is the Executive Vice President / Chief Operating Officer of the Andrus Children's Centre located in Yonkers, NY. Brian has worked in Residential Care for 20 years & over the past 4 years has worked closely with Dr. Bloom and the staff at Andrus to implement the Sanctuary Model, a trauma informed system of care. He has presented at regional, national & international conferences and written articles on developing trauma sensitive treatment programs & reducing the use of physical interventions in residential settings. He is also the co-chair of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network's Residential Treatment Work Group. Brian received his MSW from Fordham University in 1984 and is currently pursuing an MBA at Iona College.
Niran Jiang Niran Jiang has 15 years of business and personal development experience in Australia, USA and Asia Pacific. She coaches, trains and consults executives in the area of innovation, culture transformation and leadership development. She supports leaders to build cultural capital, drive system change and sustain high performance. Niran is a CTT (Corporate Transformation Tools) consultant certified by Richard Barrett & Associates.
